Community Services
NHS provides assistance to various stakeholders in coming together to effect change on their block, in their neighborhood and community. Residents set their agenda by planning together and setting goals to implement solutions through joint efforts, which promote cooperation and trust.
NHS assists residents in organizing their blocks through the KC Building Blocks program, which awards income-eligible grants for minor home repairs, barrier removal or weatherization. NHS also offers an exterior paint grant (no income guidelines) to homeowners residing on a KC Building Block. For information about NHS’ community organizing activities, call (816) 822-7703.
NHS-Sponsored Community ProjectsNeighborWorks Week: In June, our Insurance Services Committee and neighborhood residents partner by planting trees and flowers, installing trash receptacles, providing educational insurance material as well as a wide-range of activities and projects.
Battery Brigade: On the last Saturday in October, our Insurance Services Committee volunteers canvas designated neighborhoods and install, free of charge, smoke detectors, and replace batteries, as needed.
NHS Annual Scholarship Award: Available to a senior high school student residing in Center City, Squier Park, Manheim Park, 49/63, Hyde Park (South), Beacon Hills, Longfellow and Hyde Park (North).
NHS Community Connections
NHS community organizing efforts also connect with city-wide initiatives and programs which provide creative opportunities for networking. We support the needs of all of those organizations actively engaged in neighborhood and community organizing.
