MINOR HOME REPAIR GRANTS AVAILABLE

Effective June 1, 2009 Neighborhood Housing Services of Kansas City, in cooperation with the City of Kansas City, Missouri Housing Department will begin accepting applications for assistance from homeowners in need of minor home repair services. NHS will be accepting applications for households located in: Beacon Hills (19th to 31st, Troost to Paseo); Center City (Linwood to Armour, Troost to Paseo); Squier Park (35th to 39th, Troost to Paseo); Manheim Park (39th to 47th, Troost to Paseo); 49/63 (49th to 63rd, Oak to Paseo); South Hyde Park (39th to 47th, Gillham to Troost); North Hyde Park (31st to Armour, Gillham to Troost); Longfellow (25th to 31st, Gillham to Troost); and both sides of the Paseo from Linwood to 63rd. To help ensure lead-safe housing, priority will be given to households where children under the age of 6 spend at least 10 hours per week in the home.

Based on the nature of the Federal Funding used to provide these grants, income restrictions do apply for this program. Household income may not exceed 80% of area median income, based on family size. For Kansas City, the current household income limits are:

1 person - $39,400 5 persons - $60,800
2 persons - $45,050 6 persons - $65,300
3 persons - $50,050 7 persons - $69,800
4 persons - $56,300 8 persons - $74,300

Eligible repairs include roofs, gutters, furnaces, water heaters, lead paint remediation, electrical repairs, plumbing repairs etc.

“This is a great opportunity for people living in this area”, said Mark Stalsworth, President/CEO of NHS. “These are true grants, with no repayment required and we do not file a lien on the property. The only two requirements are that you own and occupy the house and that you meet the income limits.”

Funds are limited, so interested households should call 816-822-7703 Ext 219 for an application as soon as possible.
